****Learn More About Feminine Tattoos and Feminine Tattoo Designs****

In 2007 a study by the Journal of Nursing Scholarship showed that feminine tattoos account for almost half of all tattoo work is done on women. Now, it is even an even greater number, reaching up to 65%, and flipping the gender gap on its axis. Even more interesting for some, is that the “social stigma” of the feminine tattoo is largely fading, as the popularity of feminine body art grows.

The women who seek to make their mark, and show their personalities, and styles with ink are not a small, secluded, reckless segment of poor, or disenfranchised; they are professional women: lawyers, doctors, CEOs of companies, and independent thinkers of the world.

Here at femininetattoosz.com I want to help guide you through the selection process to find the tattoo that is right for you, and help you with the many decisions leading up to your first, second or twentieth tattoo: well, that’s right, it can be quite addictive. Tattoos are more than just a picture, they are a statement, and can reflect passions, milestones or even personal values.

Why Get a Tattoo?

Feminine TattoosThere is only one reason to get a tattoo: because you want one. To express your feelings, desires, dreams, hopes or aspirations. The only wrong reason to get a tattoo is to satisfy someone else’s ideals or demands.

One more recent survey by “Cruiser” shows that the majority of women, over 53% of them, decided to get a tattoo because they thought it was sexy.

Another 20% decided to get a feminine tattoo for personal reasons, usually to celebrate the birth of a child, or a big event in their lives.

There were two segments of the female population outlined in that survey that got a feminine tattoo because it was trendy or because they wanted to attract men. In total, those two segments made up about 28% of the women who got tattoos.

It can easily be said that the portion of those women who got a tattoo to attract men, were in the same group as those who got them because they thought they were sexy, so that leaves the 15% of women who sought out feminine tattoos because they were trendy.

Following a trend is perhaps the only “bad” reason for getting a tattoo. Keep in mind that trends change with the wind, and that tattoo you get will likely be with you for the rest of your life. A feminine tattoo should have personal meaning for you, even if it’s just a simple picture, or caricature.

Characteristics of Feminine Tattoos

In general, feminine tattoos are more delicate than the tattoos on their male counterparts. The lines of a feminine tattoo are usually lighter and thinner, but the tattoos themselves are often much more colorful and bold.

At one time, feminine tattoos were usually smaller than tattoos for men, but that is no longer the case. Modern women are much more likely to get a large tat, or place a tattoo in a bold, easily seen location than in the past.

While it may not always hold true, most feminine tattoos now, while no longer small, or hidden, are usually prettier, more joyful or whimsical in nature than male tattoo art.

Feminine TattoosSelecting Feminine Tattoos

Because everyone is different, and their tattoo will need to reflect their own desires and personalities no one way to select feminine tattoos is the right way. There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your tattoo, however.

Remember first of all that there is no rush. This is an important decision, one you will have to love for a long, long time. Keep in mind that the things you are “passionate” about today may not be so important to you ten, twenty or more years from now.

Unless you are absolutely certain about your feelings for a particular hobby, affiliation or thing it is much better to go with something that more appropriately reflects you general outlook on life, or aspires to your sense of aesthetics.

Feminine tattoos are uniquely beautiful and there are many to choose from. The basic types of feminine tattoos are:

  • Naturalistic: These feminine tattoos look exactly like what they set out to portray, whether it is a particular animal, person or place. Common types of naturalistic feminine tattoos are of famous people, or personal pets.
  • Stylized: A stylized feminine tattoo may combine many aspects of a naturalistic feminine tattoo, but have a more free effect that is influenced by the artist. Other types of stylized feminine tattoos are of an esoteric nature: fairies, dragons, or surreal places. In some cases colors are altered to make what would otherwise be a naturalistic tattoo into a stylized version of the portrait.
  • Abstract: These feminine tattoos include elaborate designs as well as simple tribal style tattoos such as Celtic knots or Kanji lettering.

Where to Place Feminine Tattoos

There is a simple truism that still exists when it comes to placing tattoos for both men and women: Put it where it can be conveniently covered when necessary. While for the most part, the stigma of feminine tattoos and tattoos in general is lifting, there are still some places of employment that will not hire you if you have a tattoo that shows.

The common bicep area is okay, but that is a little too masculine for most feminine tattoos. Anywhere a typical shirt would cover is commonly okay, or above the knees.

That doesn’t mean that it is bad if you choose a more open and dramatic placement for your feminine tattoos, just remember that wrist bands, anklets, or feminine tattoos on the hands may limit your job prospects now and in the future.

feminine tattoo designGetting Your Feminine Tattoos Done

Picking a place to get your feminine tattoos is one of the most important decisions you can make. It is second only to the selection of the actual artwork you want.

The most beautiful piece of art will be ruined by a bad tattoo artist. Remember that, and don’t skimp when selecting the person who will hold the tattoo gun.

Ask friends who have feminine tattoos you admire where they got their work done. Visit shops in your area and look at pictures of work the artist has completed. Usually, he or she will have several of their own that they can personally show you.

Talk with the artist, and make sure you feel comfortable with their style, and personality, as well as the cleanliness of their shop.

Make sure the person who will ink your feminine tattoo always changes needles between customers! This is not an optional point. If they give you any excuses, or try to explain away reusing needles, thank them for their time and run quickly to the next tattoo parlor. Safety first when you are looking for someone to create your feminine tattoos.
